Using IMS Trade & Industrial
Education (TIE) Curriculum Materials
Curriculum materials produced by IMS for Trade and Industrial Education
courses include student and teacher materials.
Student Materials
Student materials for each of the IMS produced curriculum include: Student
Information Sheets, Student Assignment Sheets and, for some courses, Job
Sheets.
- Student Information Sheets contain information related to the unit
of instruction and assist students master the technical information
through reading, writing, mathematics, and science exercises.
- Student Assignment Sheets include an introduction, unit descriptions,
procedures, directions, student activities, and questions.
- Assignments consist of group research projects, short answer objective
questions, and a written summary of research findings to enhance and
reinforce student understanding of each lesson.
- Job Sheets provide application of the technical
information with hands-on activities.
Teacher Materials
Teacher materials consist of Instructor’s Guide, Course Information,
Lesson Plans, Resources, and Teacher’s Keys.
- The Instructor’s Guide includes an introduction, course information
and TEKS competencies, lesson plans, teaching aids, TAKS objectives,
and unit tests/keys.
- The Course Information describes the scope of the course and gives
the teacher information relating to the T&I system TEKS alignment,
TAKS objectives, and Student Competency Profiles, where applicable.
- The Lesson Plans are instructional deliver outlines and starting
points for instruction. The lesson plans include notes related to teaching
the objectives of the course and identifies at least two TAKS Objectives
reinforced by the student activities. A list of references provides
the teacher with sources for additional information and research. The
lesson plans are intended to assist instructors organize and document
their lessons.
- The Resource section includes video resources, Internet and Web related
resources, additional reading material, Grading Rubrics, TAKS Alignment
forms, and Additional Student Activities.
- The Teacher’s Keys supply the instructor with the answers to
the student written exercises for each lesson. The answers for the pre-post
tests for each lesson are provided.
- Selected IMS Curriculum materials are aligned to the Texas Assessment
of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). These materials can be accessed at the
IMS Web site, within the Online Products page.
