Trade & Industrial Education (TIE)

Trade and Industrial Education (TIE) is the name for the system of coherent courses in Texas that prepares young people to manage the dual roles of family member and wage earner. The courses educate students to gain entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage job and/or to continue their education. Trade and Industrial Education also complements and enhances academic preparation by enabling students to apply academic principles and technology skills to a variety of community and career situations.

Trade and Industrial Education in the state of Texas comprises over 140 courses within seven distinct systems: Communication and Media Systems; Construction-Maintenance Systems; Electrical-Electronics Systems; Industrial & Manufacturing Systems; Metal Technology Systems; Personal & Protective Service Systems; and Transportation Service Systems. Trade and Industrial Education courses are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as directed by the Texas Education Agency.
