Trade & Industrial Education
(TIE)
Trade and Industrial Education (TIE) is the name for the system of coherent
courses in Texas that prepares young people to manage the dual roles of
family member and wage earner. The courses educate students to gain entry-level
employment in a high-skill, high-wage job and/or to continue their education.
Trade and Industrial Education also complements and enhances academic
preparation by enabling students to apply academic principles and technology
skills to a variety of community and career situations.
Trade and Industrial Education in the state of Texas comprises over 140
courses within seven distinct systems: Communication
and Media Systems; Construction-Maintenance Systems;
Electrical-Electronics Systems; Industrial
& Manufacturing Systems; Metal Technology Systems;
Personal & Protective Service Systems; and
Transportation Service Systems. Trade and Industrial
Education courses are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
(TEKS) as directed by the Texas Education Agency.
